Capriana’s historic farmhouses, the wild Avisio stream and Rover hamlet
This route begins in Capriana square and descends to the SS 612 road near Ristorante Miravalli. From here you take the footpath signed for Maso Lio and follow a path which once linked up historic farmhouses, some of which are now derelict.
A beautiful panoramic section follows the Avisio stream to Maso Ponte, still inhabited in the last century and surrounded by vegetable gardens, fields and vineyards. All that remains now is ruins near a historic crossing which once linked up Capriana and Valfloriana which was swept away in the 1966 flood. Here this wild stream is at its most magnificent and pristine. The route follows along it for around 1 km before turning off it to climb up to Maso Rover, an exquisite Capriana hamlet. Rover's landscape is replete with history: steep terraced fields, a little chapel built by the workers who constructed the Stramentizzo dam, the houses abandoned after the 1966 flood. Right here a small farm, FiordaLisa, has started farming these terraces once again with vegetables, herbs and ancient local varieties of bean.
The route continues to the small but lively village of Carbonare, which is worth a visit, and then Mulino Museo della Beata Meneghina, an important local religious site. The return journey to Capriana follows a straightforward footpath.

Even if this trail is not technically difficult and has no dangerous stretches, we always and in any case suggest to follow the general rules on safety for mountain hikes.
From Capriana go down to reach the main road S.S. 612 close to the ex-restaurant Miravalle and the crossroads to the farm Maso Lio. From here you can reach Maso Lio and then the place called Le Caneve. The road becomes here a path along the creek Avisio which goes to Maso Ponte and Maso Rover. From the fountain at Maso Rover follow the road on the left which brings back to Maso Lio and then Capriana. For a longer walk turn right at the fountain, go through Maso Rover, then go up, crossing the main street S.S. 612, to the hamlet Carbonare and then reach Capriana.
