Easy but long itinerary that runs along forest roads and trails, with an amazing final reward: the beautiful Stellune lake.

Lake Stellune is a peaceful and quiet corner, in a wild and suggestive environment. In July, the green pasture surrounding the lake is scattered with different colors coming from pink rhododendrons, yellow buttercups and purple morning glories. The contrast with the lake blue water makes this place magical.

Starting point
Ponte delle Stue
Directions

Start walking on the forest road on path n° 318 next to Rio delle Stue. After a first section in the wood, you will reach a pasture with the old Malga Stue Bassa first and Malga Stue Alta then. The path gets back into the wood to reach a second pasture with Malga Cazzorga, where the forest road ends. Here cows graze peacefully all summer long, eating grass and flowers that give milk a unique taste (look for mountain dairy cheese at the local cheese factory, you will love it!).

North from Malga Cazzorga, path n° 318 begins to ascend passing slightly lower than Malga delle Stellune and continues east towards Forcella Valsorda finally reaching Lake Stellune that lies below Cimon delle Stellune, Mount Montalon and Cima delle Buse.

If you still have some energy left, you can continue to Forcella Valsorda where you can find several World War One trenches.

The way back is on the same route.

The lake can be reached also from Passo Manghen with a 3,5 hour walk. Indeed, it is located along the famous Translagorai route, a multi-day trekking that crosses the Lagorai Mountain Chain from Passo Manghen to Passo Rolle.

How to get there

From Cavalese head towards Molina di Fiemme and take the SP N° 31 towards Passo Manghen. Follow the road as far as Ponte Stue (altitude 1,240 m), 8 km from Molina di Fiemme.

Where to park

At Ponte Stue (both before and after the bridge).

Hiking shoes, rain-jacket, hiking poles, water, sun cream, snack.
