A picturesque and characteristic Carnival is celebrated in Grauno in the Cembra Valley. The protagonist is the ‘tree’, whose symbolic and propitiatory significance dates back to pre-Christian times. On "martedì grasso", a pine tree is brought to the main square of Grauno and baptised by the last groom of the year by dipping a sprig into wine. The inhabitants of Grauno then drag it out of the village and plant it in the bùsa del carnevàl, where it is ‘stuffed’. At nightfall, the last groom of the year sets fire to it and the evening continues with singing and dancing around the glowing tree, while the local elders make predictions about the year by observing the direction of the sparks emitted by the bonfire. During the event there will be a kitchen with traditional dishes, music and entertainment.
