ALWAYS WEAR YOUR HELMET!

From the car park a hundred or so metres after the hamlet of 'Giovanni', climb up to the Potzmauer pass along a forest road. At the pass, we follow the signs for Caoria/Valdonega and enter the wood along the lovely forest road until, near the bait of Gianneto, the road becomes steeper and slowly gives way to a lovely path that leads us into the upper Valdonega. Passing the baita del Zuccherin hut, we continue with ups and downs along the E5 path which, after becoming a forest road, leads to the church and the last houses of Cauria (fountain), past which we descend along a tarmac road and then start climbing again towards the Cauria pass. After a hairpin bend, ignoring the ascending road, continue on a false level in the direction of Cauria until this ends and a technical and at times steep descent begins along a track that leads back towards the valley. Returning to the road that leads towards the Cauria pass, follow trail no. 4 until you reach the last houses of the hamlet and, bending to the left, continue along the forestry road, first uphill (it is possible to cut a few hairpin bends with a steep path) and then downhill towards Grauno until you reach a crossroads where, following the signs for La Lot, you begin to climb again, reaching the Monte dell'Orso. From here, with ups and downs along paths and small roads, you briefly return to Valdonega where, near a small pond, following the signs for the little Vedes lake, you begin to climb again. From the Vedes pond, with its peat bog characteristics, an exciting and at times technical descent begins, leading back to the Potzmauer pass, which is reached by retracing a short section of the forest road taken on the outward journey. The last section follows the same road as the outward journey to the starting point.
