CARANO

Carano is a typical alpine village situated on a natural terrace dominating the valley and overlooking the mountain chain of Lagorai and Pale di San Martino. This village was built on the remains of an ancient fortified borough, dating back to the Bronze Age. The so-called “Cortazze” or “Corti” characterize the centre – a large network of passages and tiny streets on the steepest slope to facilitate the flow of water. Wandering around, you can notice wall paintings and frescoes, the beautiful monolithic fountain built in 1888 and the capital dedicated to the Holy Virgin. The church of Carano-Ville di Fiemme, dedicated to San Nicolò di Bari, dates back to 1150. Leaving the village, in the direction of Cavalese, on the left wall you can see the stone called "fato lano dela fame" in remembrance of the famine (1570). In Carano you can visit the ethnographic museum Casa Begna and the ancient Ceva source, from which springs a sulfate-calcium-magnesium water, that effectively fights rheumatic and skin diseases. One of the most fantastic walks around the village is Sentiero delle Cascatelle (little waterfalls trail). 
Driving a few kilometres from Carano-Ville di Fiemme you arrive at Passo Lavazé, great destination for sports lovers. There, you can go hiking or trekking and practice both cross-country and downhill skiing. Another downhill skiing resort near Carano-Ville di Fiemme is Alpe Pampeago, the access point to Ski Center Latemar.

DAIANO

This distinctive village lies on the road that, from Cavalese, leads to Passo Lavazé. Daiano-Ville di Fiemme is one of the tiniest villages of Val di Fiemme, but also the place that can boasts of the most hours of sun throughout the year.
You can recognize the village thanks to the onion-shaped bell tower of the Gothic church dedicated to San Tommaso, built in 1761. On the walls of the most ancient houses there are several sacred frescoes. The buildings show the typical architectural features of the valley, such as monolithic fountains that decorate the streets or the “Roman” house, also called “Castello” (castle), which is another Gothic and giant building, or the wooden houses and their strict and rustic appearance. 
Daiano-Ville di Fiemme is the favourite destination for good food&drink lovers, thanks to the production of speck ham. From the village you can take naturalistic trails that overlook the mountain chain of Lagorai. Both the ski lifts of Pampeago (Ski Center Latemar) and of Alpe Cermis are situated near Daiano. At a short distance from the village, there is Lavazé, where you can admire the natural sunset show, the moment where the Sun hides behind the dolomitic mountain groups of Catinaccio and Latemar. In winter, Passo Lavazé turns into one of the cross-country best places in the world, thanks to the breathtaking tracks that wind even in the woods.

VARENA

Varena-Ville di Fiemme lies in an excellent position, nestled at the foot of the mount Corno Nero. This village is one of the most ancient centres of Trentino. Walking in Varena you can stare at typical monolithic porphyry fountains. According to the tradition, from the fountains of Varena-Ville di Fiemme sprang the best drinkable water of the valley. The church of Varena - consecrated in the Thirteenth century - is dedicated to the saints Pietro and Paolo and the internal Gothic and medieval decorations are worth a visit – the masterpieces were made by Longo and the paintings by Unterperger.
Around the village there are numerous flat and panoramic walks. 
At Christmas time, Varena shows a very famous and attractive crib, called “Sulla via di Betlemme", “On the road to Betlemme”, with hundreds of Arabian-style characters and animals that reproduce the story of Nativity. 
The upland Passo Lavazé, 8 km from Varena, can count on a beautiful landscape and plays a very important role as winter resort, especially for all cross-country skiers. 80 km of tracks but not only: there are some ski lifts and snow parks, too, to the delight of all children.

Passo di Lavazè

The upland of Passo Lavazé, 8 km far from Varena, is one of the most fascinating landscapes of Val di Fiemme. The huge expanse of meadows, framed by spruces, larches and Swiss pines, is dominated by the mount Pala di Santa (2.488 mt.). From the pass you can have an amazing vista over Catinaccio and Latemar, dolomitic peaks that, at every sunset, offer a natural show: the Alpenglow. In summer, this is the ideal place for trekking, walks or mountain bike riding, tasting in mountain huts, fishing and Nordic walking.
Each winter, the favourable altitude (1.769-2.150 mt.) lets people ski from December to April on all cross-country tracks of the worldwide famous Centre of Passo Lavazé-Oclini. There, you can also go trekking on the snow and practice downhill skiing. Besides more than 80 kilometres of cross-country tracks, that wind in conifer woods, there are ski lifts, downhill ski slopes, walks suitable for snow-shoe walking, skicrossparks and sledge, bob-sledding and tubing snow parks. The upland also hosts an important centre for the ski-orienteering, where international athletes race World Cup and Alpen Cup races. From Passo di Lavazé, you can drive from Val di Fiemme to Val d'Ega, in the province of Bolzano – or to Passo d’Oclini, another resort of South-Tyrol.
