A symbol of Val di Fiemme, the Church of S. Maria Assunta contains nine centuries of history and an enviable artistic heritage. With a surprise that only emerged in our days...

Of all the places you can visit, none better symbolises the history of Val di Fiemme than this church. Built in the 12th century but completely rebuilt in the 15th century, as evidenced by its style that includes Romanesque and Gothic elements, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta is characterized by the bell tower built in the 17th century by Giuseppe Alberti and by its coffered ceiling atrium with frescoes by the painter Antonio Longo. Also in the seventeenth century, the building was enriched with a fourth nave, decorated with frescoes, stuccoes and Baroque paintings. Visiting the Church, in the centre of the Parco della Pieve in Cavalese, you can also admire the paintings and frescoes hidden for centuries and only brought to light in 2003, thanks to the restoration work carried out after a serious fire.
