The ancient mountain pastures around Passo Potzmauer (between the Valle Di Cembra and the lower Adige valley) are now covered with beautiful forests and the former mountain farm has been transformed into a refuge, which opened in 2009. Travellers from the Valle di Cembra heading for Salorno once passed here, but now the Rifugio Potzmauer is popular with walkers who want to explore this area on the edge of the Monte Corno Nature Park. The refuge is also open on winter weekends for snowshoe enthusiasts, while in summer children can play in a large clearing. Nearby is a spectacular lookout over the Adige Valley. Open From 20 June to 20 September And on weekends all year round (Closed in November) Before leaving for your hike, always contact the manager to verify the actual opening of the mountain hut Walks From the Refuge it’s a short walk to a lookout point over the Adige valley, or you can walk along a stretch of the E5 European long-distance path (from Brittany to Italy across the Alps) to Lago Santo in 2 hours (difficulty E). Following the same path it’s just a one-hour walk to the Lago di Valda nature reserve (difficulty E).
